Annie Sloan was born in Sydney in 1949 to a Scottish daddy and a Fijian mother, and spent part of her youth in South Africa. Following seven years of studying Art in England, Sloan turned her attention to ornamental painting. Her first book, The Total Book of Decorative Paint Strategies, was co-authored with Kate Gwynn and released in 1988.
